Air bag coil assembly removal

Hey everyone. I finally got the steering wheel from hell out. Took about 4 broken bolts, drilling my own threads for a bolt and a hammer....but it's off

Now I have this Air bag coil assembly looking at me. Anyone know how I can remove it? It's on a 97, thanks!

Um, you know they make a puller for the steering wheel, right? It makes it very easy.

What are you trying to do? Do you HAVE to remove the coil assembly? Because if you don't have to take it out, just pull it out, slip it over the steering shaft, and let it hang by the wire. Just disconnect the yellow connector (http://shbox.com/ignsw/air_bag_disc.jpg), and slide the slack up the steering column.

There is a "spring ring" clip that holds the SIR coil on the steering shaft. You need spring ring pliers to remove the clip, then the coil will slide off. If you are trying to remove the coil completely, you have to pull the yellow harness connector up through the steering column, which isn't easy.

I went thru two sets of wheel pullers cause the bolts broke off in the threads...

I am trying to remove the coil assembly to run the cable for the radio controls on the new steering wheel. From what I have heard this car was prewired for it. So I am hoping once I remove the coil I am able to see them...hoping at least

So once I get the spring pliers I will be able to remove the coil assembly? It is a black circle that says some GM warning on it...and the yellow circle is underneath it.

air bag and radio control pics

I thought some pics may help...
Here is what I am looking at now, the Air Bag coil assembly...

Here is the connector I found under the dash, I think this is for the Radio Controls...this car didn't have the radio controls on the steering wheel to begin with..

Now here is the New steering wheel connector.

Question is how do I connect these two together...do I go thru the steering column?? Around the Air bag coil...any help will be greatly appreciated guys, thanks in advance

Yes, the whole black/yellow disc is the coil and will come out when you remove the spring ring. You have to keep the alignment arrows (one on the black part and one on the yellow part) aligned.

I took my air bag/coil out and installed an aftermarket steering wheel, and I remember pulling it all apart - but that was several years ago. I don't remember how the radio control wire made it through the SIR coil. Definitely comes up inside the column and pokes through near the coil wire. I'll see if I can find the parts and maybe it will help me remember.

Okay...I think I have figured it out...there is a different part #...a different acessory plate if you have the radio controls on the steering wheel. Then you will have a ribbon that goes thru the steering column to connect the connector to the steering wheel controls. It goes thru the airbag coil assembly...which is a different part number for cars with steering wheel controls.

I just decided to put the steering wheel on and not to worry aobu the controls. Does anyone have a Airbag coil assembly?? Mine is broke.
