alternator going bad?
Was driving yesterday with the tops off, twas beautiful. I get to the Lincoln tunnel in New York and close the windows and put on the AC. Tunnel is hot and disgusting in there. There was some traffic and in the tunnel and I was watching my temp gauge rising. One I got out of the tunnel, I turned off the AC, and the temp gauge went back down to normal and then i noticed the check gauge light. It wasnt the temp as that went back down. I see my batter gauge was in the red. Had about 45 minutes left to my destination and was all nervous. i noticed the turning signals were blinking very slowly. 25 minutes left to the destination and then the absinop light goes on. I finally made it home. Alternator starting to go? Had that replaced 12 years ago.

Re: alternator going bad?
Yes, probably the alternator.
Couldn’t hurt to double-check the heavy cable that goes from alternator to battery, but a problem there would likely be intermittent.
Pull the alternator and take it to AutoZone. They have a machine that can bench test it and will tell you whether it’s bad.
