Anyone do a trap-door fuel pump install on a Convertible?

The trunk space of a convertible is shapped way different than in a hatch or T Top car.

Just wanted to see if anyone had pics of where they cut out, on their convertibles, to do this/how well/not well it worked on this body style.

No but I'll keep watching

I have not, but it will be interesting to see if someone else has done
it and has pics, etc. to share. You definately have a low mile car. I'm
at 35k original miles.

I wouldn't do it on a vert. Just behind the seat you have a renforcement piece that runs between the wheel wells. You would be cutting right in this area and would have to remove a section of it.

I would spend the extra time and drop the tank.

Hmmm ... Not what I wanted to hear but ...

I just thought if there was a quick/easy way ... I probably will just drop the tank. Im not looking forward to dropping the rear end to get the tank out, but it could be worse I guess.

If anyone has successfuly done this without having to cut that brace, please let me know.

Yes

Yes, it is possible to do it - I just did the racetronix kit a few weeks ago.

I found pictures on the net of the overall location to cut to and then cut up to the extra brace. I ended up loosening the front gas tank strap bolts for a little extra room.

How bad was it to do?

Any way you could possibly get me some pics? If you can, email them at CarnageZ28@hotmail.com

Thanks,
Joe

Don't use the trap door / cutout method.
Drop the tank and rinse it out before installing a new pump.

Anyone have a link to the site showing you where to cut the hole?

This is why so many pumps fail pre-maturely!!!
You SHOULD drain the tank and clean / rinse it out. The number once cause of pre-mature pump failure is sediment / rust in the tank. Most FLT1 cars have plenty of it due to their age.

It does not take much more effort to loosen one shock etc. to get the tank out. There is also the risk of causing a fire or nicking the lines / wires on top of the tank.

I have it down to a science.

1) Jack car up
2) Remove passenger side wheel
3) Remove UPHR, PHR,
4) Disconnect muffler from Y-pipe (I have long tubes) slide to the side
5) remove heat shields
6) Disconnect passenger side shock
7) Remove gas cap and cap shroud
8) Jump the fuel pump to drain the tank or siphon if its dead
9) Unbolt tank straps slide out tank.
10) Remove fuel pump, rinse out tank
11) Reinstall everything.

This is the way it should be done

Thanks ...

I was always under the impression that there was alot more to it than that on these cars since it is kinda above the rear axle.
