My ASR light comes on intermittently when I drive the car. If I turn it off and start again, it is gone. Happends just sometimes without any reason. Perhaps one or two times per week.

When it is on I notice that the gears are switching slightly later ...

Camaro Z28 2000
Automatic
LS1 engine
93,000 miles on this beauty.

Any suggestions anyone on what this might be?
(Note that I'm not a tech so I have no access to fault codes etc)

I had the same problem, except both my ASR and ABS lights would come on, then go off after a little bit. Turned out to be a loose ground . It was the grounding lug on the passenger side wheel well for me.
