Cool Best batteries for F-Bodies...

What's the best battery (side posts) for 4th Gen Camaros out there?
Can somebody recommend something good, and what can I expect to pay?
Thx-Goose

Interstate and Optima seem good, but all car batteries are basically the same and I heard that Exxon (I think) makes like 70% of car batteries.

Optima They can be mounted in any position and can be mounted inside because it's a gel type battery so it doesn't emit gasses like regular batteries do. Never had a problem with mine! Optima's cost like $120-$140 while your regular Interstate battery would cost like $60ish.

I don't like the optima's because they are so stinkin heavy (40 lbs) plus they aren't all that much better than a regular battery in my opinion. I am gonna get a odyssey dry cell battery next and it will weigh around 15 lbs less then the optima I currently have.

Ive had yellow top in my z28, and I have redtop in my firebird. I'm not doing a huge system like I had in my z28, so redtop is all I need.

If I remember correctly, there ar only 4 or so companies of battery makers, not including Optima etc.....

I bought an AutoZone battery < gold> 3 years ago, still going strong.... Just did a load test resently, and amps are still high......

Re: Best batteries for F-Bodies...

Thanks for the info. I'm not running any accessories on my car that would require something special, but I do like getting what's best, and what has been working for you guys. That's what matters to me. Good experience.

In 7 years I've owned my car, I have only replaced my ACDelco battery once with another ACDelco. It was a 6-year warranty bought March 2000. So, it didn't make it the full 6 years. I might get another one if the pro-rated usage that will be applied to the cost of a new one, makes it worthy. Otherwise, I'll go with the recommendation, and information you guys have provided here.

I have always bought Duralast Gold from autozone.. Well I have only bought one and I just keep takin it back and getting a new one every two years.. I still have my original AC Delco on the WOODEN shelf.. The little light or marker is still green.. I have an optima battery in the camaro.. It starts and runs fine..

Re: Best batteries for F-Bodies...

My original factory battery lasted me 8 years. That's the longest I've ever had a battery last. I replaced it with an Optima Red Top, but even when I replaced it, the factory Delco was still ticking. I just knew the time was coming because I had accidentally drained it a couple times while running the stereo when cleaning the car.

If I didn't get my Optima I would definitely have headed back to the dealer and picked up another Delco.

I'm still on my factory battery too, 6 years!

I'm only looking to change mine since winter startup's were really tough sometimes last year so I'm thinking ahead.

I'll probibly just go to sears and see what they can do me for.

Optima all the way... The take more abuse and keep coming back for more than any other type of battery. Optima's ARE superior to an old school lead-acid battery,

Re: Best batteries for F-Bodies...

I went with the Optima red top in my z28. It was $99 from Batteries Plus (I also get 10% off from them ).
