If the GM engineers wanted you accessing the fuel pump in the way you are describing, they would have put an access panel there for you.

The right way of doing something never requires you to do something irreversible to your car, like cutting a huge F'ing hole in the sheetmetal.

But hey, if you want to cut a hole in your car right above the gas tank and fuel lines, then put the door on a hinge, be my guest :blah:
