Convertible Owners

I am having a lot of noise coming from my top I believe when I go over a bump. Everything seems to rattle more than it should. Anyone else having any problems with their verts? Any ways of making everything a little bit quieter?

PS: I know the F-bodys are rattle traps but it just seems like it is just from the top. I just fixed my awful rattle and it was from my broken stock LCAs.

I never hear an unusual rattles/noises in my friends '98 Z28 'vert... maybe you should inspect the top from front to back, looking for the culprit?

Re: Convertible Owners

No problems here either. I'd check the seals, front latches (they're adjustable). and all the linkage.

in my 91 there are pins (more like small cones) to line up the latches. mine broke and then started rattling.

Re: Convertible Owners

I am really not too sure on how to adjust the top. When I go over a bump or something the rattle only comes from the rear on both sides. It is kinda like the window is making it rattle but I am not sure. It is driving me so nuts that I want a hard top...

Re: Convertible Owners

If you pull the plastic panels behind the doors in the rear compartment, you can probably find what's loose. You'll need a big tork driver to get the panels off though...

I seem to remember the pins going through the hydrolic pistons floating. They could be loose.

Re: Convertible Owners

No rattles at all here. Does it make a difference if the windows are up or down? The front "J" hooks that latch the front are adjustable a little bit. Is it a mechanical rattle or more of a squeaking rattle....if that makes any sense...LOL. Might want to also check everything underneath the car and make sure everything is tight.

Re: Convertible Owners

You don't have to take off any panels to do this. You will need a torx bit though, 20 or 25, can't remember, anyho. Put the top half way up and check the torx bolts on the frame of the top, you'll prob have to pull the fabric side panel liners out of the way. There are two bolts on each side, everytime my top rattles, it's the loose torx doing causing it. You can check the window bumpers as well, but that takes a special racket mini-tool I got at Sears, that bits can insert too. Be careful not to tighten it too much or the top will strain to go up. Also, check your top lock downs, one my be tighter than the other, causing one side to vibrate, but that should be really obvious.
