Disable automatic headlights (Resistor)
#33
My 95 formula doesn't have any automatic or always on headlights thank god...but my wifes pontiac does. Every 50k friggin miles you gotta replace the hard to reach pita headlight low beams/tailights cause they burn out. I've never had to replace headlights in any other vehicle I've ever owned...including my formula which is still running the original headlights. I know the DRL's are supposed to make you more visible..but if the lights are aways gonna be on at least make them last awhile As much as my wife has to drive I'm constantly replacing something on her car....and everythings a pain to get to on it

I have a 2002 Chev SS camaro 35th anniversary edition....
just bought XENON HID lights and they're causing a 'clicking' noise when they go on.
From what I am reading, it is the automatic on headlights that needs to be disabled to fix
this problem, but I cannot find a 'HOW TO DISABLE' sheet anywhere. Does anyone know
where or how I can disable my automatic headlight feature??

On top of the camaro's dash, there is a an alarm LED light (if alarm equipped) and a hole beside it. When you remove the cover in the dash, there is a sensor. If you remove the sensor and replace it with a resistor, the lights will always think it is bright ooutside and not turn on unless you manually turn them on. My camaro is modified to work this way. Im not sure if your year of camaro has the same setup but Im pretty sure it does. Should be near center of the dash (top side).
Edit** This year looks different but I believe the sensor is near the LED light on the right in this pic

I bypassed my automatic headlights with a relay and an additional fog lamp switch. When the switch is in the on position, the led is on, and relay is in the open position. This shows that the automatic headlight function is active.
Then I wired the relay into the a and b terminals in the smaller connector on the DRL module. When the switch is in the off position, it powers the relay to make a connection between the a and b terminals, effectively disabling the auto headlamps and daytime running lamps.
This is an advanced way of just connecting the two wires together at the ambient light sensor.
