Disk brake conversion kit?

I asked about getting rid of my drum brakes in the rear and someone said that I could get a 4th gen rear end and drivetrain, but I'd rather not do that. Is there anyone who makes disk brake conversion kits for 3rd gen Camaros? I know they make them for Mustangs and trucks, but I couldn't find anything for my car when I did a Google search.

For a couple hundred bucks you could get a complete 89+ rear axle with better gears then you may already have. Complete from disc to disc, might need a little cleaning and a caliper rebuild, but that costs nothing and you'd have a limited-slip rear with disc brakes and at least 3 series gears(if you luck out). All you would need would be a new prop valve to match the rear discs, or an adjustable wilwood unit to get more line pressure to the rears. Check around, you'd be surprised whats out there. No sense in spending the dough on ssbc brakes for the rears when like 75% of the braking is done in the front anway. A good set of PBr aluminum calipers, properly rebuilt and getting enough line pressure, wil be all the brakes you could ever need for the rear.

I don't think I have all the tools to replace the entire rear end. Plus, won't I have to reset the timing chain and speedo because of the different gears?

Airtools would pretty much be a must if you want to get it done quick.. without airtools.. you'd need a damn good breaker bar, and some time

Me, and my friend (i'm 17, he's 18) and some assistance of his dad, we were able to swap rear ends out flawlessly. One day to disassemble, one day to reassemble

Timing chain? is there another timing chain, or is that the engine timing chainyou're talking about? I only know of one, and that wouldn't affect anything...

The speedogear would need to be swapped out to make your speedo accurate

I didn't know if swapping the rear end would mess up the timing or not (I don't know anything about the timing). Where could I get a new speedo gear?

at the bottom you should see DRIVE gears and DRIVEN gears
depending on what gears whatever rearend you get has, that decides what gear you need

I don't know how to figure it out, someone else could though

If you do go about the rear end swap, it's very easy. Someparts you'll want a helper or two-- specifically lowering the rear end, and putting the new rear up, essentially just to balance it on the jack

i can't stress enough how easy airtools make it. it's just unbolt a few parts, swap, bolt everything back up

try to find a rearend with all the brake hardware, such as the calipers, rotors, and if you can, with the brake lines still attached (so you have just one brake line to attach)

Like I said, my friend did the swap (he wanted posi), but he got disc brakes and better gears, also.. (and he replaced the shocks, and rear sway bar, while he was at it) so it was well worth it

RIght now, I'd rather replace just the brakes instead of the entire rear end. I don't want to do that until I do a V8 swap.
