Exclamation does the ac clutch engage and disengage when switch is on?

whenever i flip my ignition switch forward my ac clutch clicks on and a couple seconds later it clicks off. Is this normal?

I noticed this while trying to here the fuel pump relay. I just want to make sure nothing is wrong.

Well, your AC clutch is controlled by 2 things. AC system activation, and the temp of your evaporator core. If you have the temp setting low enough while your AC is on, it will cycle, providing only as much cooling power as is nec3ssary.

Are you sure it is the a/c clutch (visually verified)? I often hear a click or two under the hood when the key is first turned to ON (and it's not the a/c clutch).

with the AC and defrost controls in the OFF position and turning the ignition switch forward without starting the clutch engages for about 3 seconds and then disengages.

When I first heard it I thought it was the abs cycling. I had my girlfriend turn the switch forward and I listened under the hood and to my surprise you could see the clutch going in and out.

Shoebox do you know if it would do this if R134 is low. I have O-rings on the ac pump currently leaking and haven't had time to fix it.

the A/C clutch is controlled by 1 thing only, the PCM, everything else is inputs into the PCM called A/C requests, it might be programmed into the PCM to engage the clutch with the controls off at first start as to not hurt the components from nonuse

If refrigerant was too low, the PCM would lock out engagement of the clutch altogether. Otherwise, I assume it would operate normally.
