Question Electric Cutout

I have an 01 Z. I came accross this electric cutout from dmhperformance which is perfect bc i want to keep the "sleepyness" in my car. The exhaust on my car is stock w/ the 3 chamber muffler. I was wondering how reliable this mod is and how much of a power gain will be produced. Is there anything better than this inexpensive exhaust mod? Thanks...

Well with it being electric you may run into problems with the switch, maybe someone with this mod can chime in with some better info. A cut-out is a good mod and you can prolly see a 5-10rwhp increase with it, possibly more

electric cutout

i have one from qtp. i love it. 5-10 rwhp is about right with stock setup.i have a stock exhaust. my friend has qtp and gutted cats, wow thats loud! the "sleepyness" factor is great just for the noise. open it up right before the light turns green to distract the person you are racing. i love opening when i hear these ricers with the "fart-can" rev up. puts them right into their place. as far as problems, with carbon or heat build up, they never seem to seal correctly when you close it. you close it, hear a whistle, reopen it a little, then clos eit again to seal. have to be careful not to hold the switch too long too, as it will wear down the solenoid. 4-6 seconds each way max. and listen to the car when closing it. last thought, with some other mods, the noise helps drown out the whine of a cobras s/c as you race.

Sure the QTEC could be good, but what sold me on the DMH was the 4-year warranty for just a few $$$ more. The QTEC doesn't have near as good of a guarantee.

I've owned both DMH and QTP cutouts.

To say "the DMH is built better" without having actually seen the two side-by-side isn't exactly a good way to put it.

I had very bad luck with my DMH units. Dave was always great about fixing it under warranty, but I just couldn't take having it die on me every month or two. I finally had him fix it one last time and sold it. I'm not here to trash Dave or his products; I just had way too many problems to just keep dealing with it.

I replaced it with a QTP. The QTP doesn't look quite as fancy, but the motor is definately on there far more solidly than the DMH unit. This is VERY important since the motor on mine (and a couple friends of mine) had broken loose before on our DMH units. The wiring setup on the QTP is really nice.

Overall, I've had less problems with my QTP unit and it cost less. I know a couple of the board vendors sell QTP stuff, and do GP's on occassion.

when you say flange, what do you mean by that?? the cutout part? because I thought all the qtec was, was the silver part. Not the actual "cutout"
