Exhaust help!!

Exhaust help!!
I have a stock 98 z28 and i am looking to upgrade the exhaust... I dont have the money for a Borla or other expensive catback system. What I'm thinking is a dual exhaust system. What do you guys recommend I am pretty new to all of this. I want electric cutouts. What mufflers would be good if I am going for a sort of "sleeper". Something quiet but with a punch to it when I step on it. What is meant by a true-dual system... and do i need headers, xpipe, or hpipe, high flow cats. how much am i looking at in terms of cost for this setup. What size pipes and tips? remember money is a definite concern. I will probably be adding the electronic cutouts later and just have them capped for now to save money. Thanks guys.

Re: Exhaust help!!
Well a hooker catback has a real quiet sound till you lay into it and its only like 280 new. A true dual system is when 2 pipes go from the manifolds back, it is used pretty much only on cars with long tube headers.

Re: Exhaust help!!
A true dual system will run you about the same as a high end cat-back system by the time it's all done. There are no bolt-on ture dual systems in the market for a late-model F-body, it will all have to be custom fabbed. Electric cutouts are also fairly expensive.

Re: Exhaust help!!
Well if you didnt know your car is a single exhaust system unlike the mustangs. You car goes into 1 pipe after two cats to a single muffler and out into two tips. Fist off you can put on cutout after the y-pipe or two before the cats which will be a lot louder.
1. The best catback system that you are looking for with price and sound is the hooker catback and comes with tips.
2. If you dont have emissions in your state just get rid of the cats instead of buying high flow cats, it will sound better and have a little quicker response.
3. There are many people on here going to true duals systems like myself. This usually consist of Longtube headers($500-650), optional X or H-pipe($40-100), and just regular piping 2-3inch, and two mufflers of your choice. The most popular mufflers are the dynomax bullets($35 a piece) very loud. The cost to install headers is $300 and the cost to install the rest is around$200-300. This usually stops at the rear axle in dumps meaning the exhaust never exists the rear of the car since it is hard and expensive to run the pipes over the rear axle since there is not that much room. It is better to run 2.5 from the headers and then 2.25 over the axle and out the back. That is what I did. Hope this helps. Here is pictures of mine. Just got the pipes over the axle last week and I love it.

There is also not much clearance room with this setup and lowering the car is dangerous to the exhaust.
