Has anyone tinted their own windows with good results?
I know its probably worth 160$ for a pro to tint mine(Theres a shop this much, they will do any tint i want for that price and I have seen their good results on a big deal of cars). I got a perscription because i got light sensitivity so I can go as dark as I want. I was thinkin i could get a tint to match my black paint exactly (anyone know about waht percent this would be?) I was just wondering if anyone has tinted their own windows and had a bubble free, tear free result (With the exception of the dot matrix. I see you can get supplies for a little over 30$ on the internet.
I have also been noticing a lot of people with an ugly purple tint and i heard its what happens when you do it yourself, is it true? Is there anyway I can get a good black tint? Also, please tell me what percent you did, and any tips you have. I think it be cool to know how to do it because i have many friends that would like it done and i could charge them way less than companies and still make good profit.

ive only heard bad things about diy tint jobs. the darkest tint ive seen is 2%, which is damn near black, and thats what i plan on doing since there is no tint laws where im from.

I did mine. It sucks. The side windows are curved, and to be done right, you would need to cut the shape out, and then use a heat gun to contour it to the window. Rear windows are much worse, unless you have a vert like me. I just deal with mine not being perfect for now, but will have a pro redo it soon.
Those kits dont include that much film either. The side windows are pretty long, and probably need a roll to themselves. The rear window would also need its own roll. After you add up supplies, and time, its much better to have a pro do it with a warranty.
The purple tint gets that way with age. Its store bought stuff. The pros use better stuff, and they garuntee it not to fade.
You will probably want at least 5%. Thats what I have, but at night you have to roll your windows down to turn corners because you cant see out.

The purple tint you see is from cheap film after about 2 years, and the tint that is sold to the public is usually the film that turns purple. The purple tint is a dyed tint, the good tint is metalized and wont turn purple and the darkest metalized tint I have seen is 6%. Doing it yourself is no fun, I have a friend that has a tint shop and he can do a F-body in an hour and that is using one piece of tint on the rear window, he makes it look easy but for a first timer it isnt. The Ebay window precut tint kits dont fit well and usually will show up at your door damaged and not usable. And as previously mentioned you will need a heat gun to shrink the tint to the coutour of your glass.

I didn't tint my own windows but my Z is black and I had both sides tinted to 20% which is pretty dark, appears almost very dark grey in sunlight and black at night, and the rear to 5%. Best part is the shop used 3M tint film that comes with a lifetime guarantee against bubbling or turning purple, something that you won't get if you do it yourself. With the black paint and black tint the car looks abosolutely wicked!
