is he full of it?

local with a ls1 said he went
"13.06 with bad traction. with that trap speed and a 1.82 60ft it would been around a 12.64"
he is also saying he is BONE STOCK, i told him theres no way he ran that stock, and hes trying to tell me that i dont know what im talking about because i own an "out of date" LT1

Ya, they can run very low 13's stock, but thats with decent traction etc.

BTW, what trap speed????

I ran 13.56 w/ horrible traction and a "sleeping on the line" 60' when I first got my car (stock) at 106 mph. Actually I wasn't used to launching the M6 yet so I just took off relatively normal them hammered it.

I think he is talking a line of sh-t. The fastest LS1 I can remember reading of was in a Chevy High Performance magazine. The best run was done by a professional driver w/ a 2002 Camaro SS. The best they could pull off was 12.9X. He would have needed a pretty good launch and good conditions to run a 13.06 on a BONE STOCK LS1.

Many LS1 drivers with manuals can't shift at all so i run right with them in my A4 before the SC install. Mid 14's for the last 2 SS's i raced with M6's. I sure there are plenty of great shifters out there but most of the guys i see haven't ran more than a couple of passes ever.

I beleive it ran the number, I don't buy that it was a crapy run it could run 4/10 quicker.

I had a friend that run a 12.90 with just a Flowmaster muffler on the stock pipes.

13.06 @ 106 is a very good running LS1, and pretty well driven too .

Evan Smith posted the 12.89 @ 108 with the '02 SS. There have been a few since who have snuck into the 12's with stock LS1's as well ..... but they are far and few between.

I have run a 13.02 @ 107.44 with my car, "stock-ish" except for 4.10 gears behind the A4, and a lid . After swapping to the T56, I ran a 13.402 @ 107.65, oh, and that was with 3.23 gears! Imagine what lower gears would do??

I think your buddy is on crack if he thinks he's got a 12.6xx second LS1, if it's bone stock . It ain't gonna happen. ~12.9xx is possible, but they're not very common. Unfortunately, perfect traction has the side effect of bogging the engine down, which still hurts the 60' time. My best 60' with the 4.10's was a 1.92, but I actually ran slower that run than the 13.02 pass?!

It is true though ... a lot of M6 drivers DON'T know how to drive.

I doubt he would have netted a 13 flat timeslip with bad traction. But in general, low 13s are in no way uncommon on those cars. It seems like he is doing alot of benchracing though, tell him to back up his claim with a timeslip. I don't see him getting 12.6x's on a bone stock LS1 with a 1.82 sixty foot time.

A friend of mine has an 02 Z28 M6 and I've seen him run a best of 12.67 at 111 mph. He does have a lid and a catback, but I was still impressed.

13.40 seem to be the average times of good drivers. This can swing several tenths in either direction on any given day though.
There is absolutely no way he could manage a 12.64 with a stock LS1. Some well thought out small mods yes, but not stock.

That, my friend, is a factory freak, or there is more to the story than either you know, or are choosing to tell? You're talking about 5 MPH and .5 seconds faster than pretty much every other LS1 out there ... 12's is getting rare, and so are speeds greater than ~108 ... beyond that, it's virtually impossible without either A) power mods, and/or B) a lot of weight reduction ..... I'm not waving the BS flag (been there, done that, had it blow up in my face) but there is SOMETHING missing from the puzzle .

His car had an SLP lid, Magnaflow cat back, I *think* he may have deleted his cats, otherwise thats it. It is by no means stone stock, but not a whole lot of work has gone into it.

The car also has the Hurst shifter that was available from the factory.

well, i know 13.30s are doable, but heartland park poorly preps they're track for test and tunes, so i know he had to have bad traction, Most LS1s around ehre will run 13.90s stock because of the poor track prep
