Hello. New to 4th gen

Hello all,
My name is Dean. New to ANY forum so I apologize in advance for lack of understanding how to navigate and for posting the below here. I am also new to 4th gen World
I am trying to get educated on several aspects of the aforementioned car.
I have several questions / requests
So thanks in advance for any knowledge you can share

1. If you have an SS car but did NOT get the SLP floor mats. What mats should the car have? I assume mats that have the 30 year logo embroidered into it? If so, I would like to buy a set. I see a few options on eBay etc. but they all seem to have different logo locations. Can anyone share a picture of the two factory mats? If I opt to buy SS mats, can someone provide some pics of an original set so I don’t buy a bad repo set.

2. I have noticed some cars for sale that include a white bag with CAMARO on the front of it. Is that bag original from factory or SLP? If so, what is in the bag??

3. Does the original keyless entry remote have 3 or 4 button remote? Does the trunk release have a x2 on it? Anyone provide a pic? Again don’t want to buy the wrong one.

4. I have the SLP report showing the build# but it does not have the 30 year Anniversary build # like others I see online. SVE tells me they can’t get that info now. Any ideas on who to contact or How I could get that #?

That’s enough to get me started lol. Thanks again for any help you could provide.
Dean

Welcome to CamaroZ28.com ! ! !

Not sure at this point where the best place to post this is. This site just doesn’t have the traffic it used to have. Sorry I have to even say that. Fortunately, the few people that are left are predominantly 4th Gen LT1 owners.

Let me try moving this to “General 67-02 F-Body Tech”. May seem odd but that is the forum with the second highest traffic count. Next choice might be “Appearance”. The member with the best collection of 4th Gen history is Brangeta. I'll see if I can direct him to this post.

Re: Hello. New to 4th gen

Figured from your questions it was a 1997. Is it a Z4C 30th Anniversary Edition?

Re: Hello. New to 4th gen

Hi Dean, I have an enormous amount of info about '96-'97 Camaro SSes on this page of my website: https://sites.google.com/site/brange...1997-camaro-ss
Unfortunately, I may have possible errors regarding the 30th Anni Edition SSes on there, as I never dove in super deep with the info on those.

And wow... you are asking some really difficult questions!

1. Concerning the floor mats... if your car wasn't optioned with the optional SLP SS floor mats, then you would have had either GM's standard floor mats (which were part of an options package) or absolutely nothing. Absolutely no floor mats was pretty uncommon and I *believe* only possible for certain years. If you own a '97 like I assume you do, then every single spec of '97 Camaro possible came with carpeted front floor mats that year. RPO Code B35 would be present on your RPO code sticker if you had rear carpeted floor mats from GM. I can't remember (at the moment) whether you had to tick a box to get rear floor mats if they came packaged with other option(s) so I don't want to open that can of worms.

If you own a white and orange striped '97 30th Anniversary Edition Z28 or SS with RPO code Z4C, your car would have come from GM with floor mats with embroidered 30th Anniversary Edition emblems on the front floor mats.

'97 30th Anniversary Camaro SS with 30th Anniversary floor mats

All '97 30th Anniversary Edition Z4C (30th Anni Edition) cars required the car be ordered with AG1 (6-way power driver seat), coupes had to have 1SJ (preferred equipment group 2), and convertibles had to have 1SM (preferred equipment group 2). These cars had to have QFZ or QLC tires. The RPO code WU9 (Sales Package Anniversary Z28 SS) was sometimes used on the 30th Anniversary Edition SSes to denote them as SSes WITHOUT the normally required R7T. 167 30th Anniversary Camaro SSes lack R7T but have WU9.

I don't believe there were SLP SS floor mats specific to 30th Anniversary Edition SSes. I don't remember there being SLP mats with 30th Anni logos nor orange text. I'd have to look through my old computer to know for sure.

2. The bag you're asking about is the bag for the car cover. The 30th Anni Edition SS came standard with one of those I am pretty sure, so if you have a white and orange striped SS, and it's a real Z4C, it should have had the car cover. The regular SSes COULD have had a car cover, but it was optional, and the bag for the regular SSes was silver w/ red lettering, not white with orange.

3. '96 and '97 both had 4 button key fobs if they had keyless entry and the alarm. You'd know if they had the alarm, because there would be an LED bulb in the center of the dash near the defrost vent. On a '96 with alarm, that LED bulb would be surrounded by a round piece of black plastic. I'm pretty confident that all '96s and '97s with keyless entry also had alarms, but I can't be 100% positive. I know keyless entry + alarm was only available on the top spec option (Preferred Equipment Group 2) for '96 Camaros. However, I'm not sure which key fob was used in '96 if someone had keyless entry without the alarm (if that was even possible...). From '96-'02, the key fob style for cars with the alarm were the guitar pick shaped one, not the rectangle that '93-'95 had. The '96 Camaro brochure shows a fob that had LOCK, UN LOCK, a red Bugle, and a picture of a generic car icon with the trunk open if the car had the optional alarm. I don't know when GM changed to the rubber buttons with the REAR 2X on it. I know for a fact that 2002 models had the REAR 2X button...

My assumption is that if you have to double-click the trunk button for your trunk to unlock, then you should have the REAR 2X rubber buttons. I'm not sure if the electronics in the fob itself controls that, or it's something in the car.

If you own a '97 30th Anni Edition, then researching this via ebay and other classified sites shouldn't be too hard, because surely one of the super low mileage cars listed for sale right now has a picture of the keys. It might take a few hours, or you might have to email the sellers and ask for a photo though.

4. The people who run Home : The Official Camaro SS Registry might be able to get you your 30th Anni SS number if you email them.

Re: Hello. New to 4th gen

Thank you very much for the information. My research has answered some of my questions, but you just are never 100% sure till you can get confirmation.
So I did not have floor mats on my SS option sheet. So I agree, I should have the 30 year Anniversary like a Z28. True, SS floor mats are all the same with red SS stitching for some reason.
My GM sticker does have the color coded carpeted rear mats.

The bag is interesting. My car did not apparently come with a car cover. UNLESS it was provided with all SS cars and was not listed on the option sheet.

Keys. I had a Z28 C4Z for 12 years. Just sold it 6 months ago. I did not research it’s options. Worse never paid attention to the key remote. Lol. I THINk it had the button that said rear x2 and not the trunk open pic. I just see both on eBay so wanted to confirm. For whatever reason, both remotes are gone for my car. Guess I’m lucky to have 1 set of keys. Lol

I will check with the SS registry people on the #.
thank you again for your response.
Dean

According to the Parts Manual, the same remotes were used between 1996 and 2002. All three of my Camaros have 16245100-29 on the back of the remote case. They are a 1998, 2000, and a 2002.

Re: Hello. New to 4th gen

Great news. I ordered 2 of those from GM Direct. Maybe I will get them.

now another question.
I saw that SS cars should have WU8 RPO.I just saw a WU9 is sales package z28/SS.
Does WU8 always show on non anniversary edition SS cars? Thus WU9 is exclusively for the anniversary edition?

thanks

Dean

Yes, I believe that is correct. Only a Z4C 30th Anniversary SS Model will have the WU9 RPO. All other SS' will have the WU8 RPO.

Sorry Dean, I definitely don't have a picture of that on my current computer. I'd need to be home to fire up my old one.

Re: Hello. New to 4th gen

Lots 'o questions! They're good though. I have the Z4C Z28. It has the 30th floor mats with gray stitching. Original white leather seat covers were recently replaced with white herringbone, to me it looks better. Key fob is 4 buttons but they're all worn off.
