How do I remove the shifter?

How do I remove the shifter?
I need to take out the plastic part that has the ashtray and the list of gears on it so I can integrate my iPod into it, but I can't figure out how to get the shifter off. It is an automatic shifter by the way.

Well I know on 4th gens there is a small staple like thing on the front part of it (facing dash) just pull that out and the shifter will pull up.

Thanks. Mine does have that but I wasn't sure if that was it or not, so I left it alone.
