How important is the abs, is it safe without?

You guys have made some very good points...thanks for all your help. But, some of you said why even mess with it and my answer to that is...

1. it is ugly in the engine bay and makes removing the valve covers harder
2.will free up engine room and make the engine a little simpler
3. will take off around 12 lbs or so
4. wont have to press the button anymore

True I could just press the switch everytime I get in the car which I do.....but the real reason I want it out is because it is ugly and in the way of things.

how do you make it so when you start the car traction control is off?
