How to install cam? How to time?

I have looked all over trying to find out a step by step instruction on how to install a cam. The ones that I see just seem to be too simple, and being only 18, i have little mechanical knowledge. By that I mean, I feel comfortable doing anything to a car except internal engine components. I was wandering if someone could point me in the right direction on how to install a cam. Also, i have no idea how to time a car, so a lesson in that would be helpfull. Just wanting to further my knowledge before I start college next year (mechanical engineering)

Thanks.

While not being too terribly difficult I would not recommend a cam install to someone with limited auto mechanic knowledge. You can really mess your car up if you do it wrong. Here is a step by step for an LT1...

Re: How to install cam? How to time?

I'd highly suggest buying a hanes manual or something of the like. I started off not knowing too much, but after doing a few repairs using my hanes I'm feeling much more confident.

That being said, looking at the instructions in the hanes for a camshaft swap looks quite daunting. As someone said before, there is a very large number of steps.

Good luck if you do decide to. Please post back with how long it took you to.
