How is your power steering?????

Just wondering whats up with mine, it has always been sort of stiff, and lately its been getting worse, i did a half-*** flush job awhile back, which did absoutely nothing to fix the problem, no leaks, looks clean

Is it supposed to be really easy to operate?

Re: How is your power steering?????

My power steering is tight and easy to operate. I've never had any problems from it. As far as idle speed goes, my 6 speed car has always idled around 900-1000 RPM.

I bought my 95 Z28 in February and the power steering has always seemed stiff or not easy to steer. I thought it had to do with the rack & pinion steering. My S10 steering is MUCH easier to use than the Z28.

Re: How is your power steering?????

The only problem with my steering is occasiocally one of the hooker long tube headers brushes against the steering shaft.

The rack & pinion unit is supported by four rubber bushings. I wonder if they could have softened and the unit moves around? There are Polyurathane busings made for replacement.

Yeah, my power steering is stiff compared to any other power steering car that I have driven. I personally like it like that though. My car idle's around 600-700 rpms. I also drive a 6-speed.

Re: How is your power steering?????

mines not really noisy, never heard anything odd, but its just kinda stiff all the time, and with A/C on and warmed up, low idle, it will almost cut out if you use it alot, for a few milliseconds, like "lag" in the middle of turning.....rought spot kinda thing.....

Re: How is your power steering?????

My power steering has gotten looser and looser. Often if I hit a groove in the road, my car will follow it. It hasn't been the same since I had the tires changed and the guy from "Wrong Turn" who was I'd say 300lbs+ drove it in and out of the shop.... I was told by GM that my high pressure hose was leaking but my fluid level hasn't changed in the past 8 mo since I was told that... I'm lost.
