Identifying governed (non-GSC-tired) cars...
These next two questions I'm sure you guys have dealt with about a hundred times, but I can't locate them in the archives so appreciate your patience and info. I'm about to buy a '95 Formula convertible with auto trans (and some GS-Cs), but I would like to be able to check and make sure it doesn't
have the 104(or 8???) mph non-Z-rated tire governor, as well as check what the rear axle ratio is. AAre there ways to check these things ---- I mean other than taking the thing up to 150 (my license already has what we'll call a "black mark" on it!)
Also, can someone tell me about that governor ---- wouldn't it just be programming in the computer, and can't computers simply be swapped from car-to-car simply by disconnecting the battery and unplugging the thing and replugging another back in...???
And if this isn't pushing my luck with too many questions, are there any really good 4th-gen f-body yards... like the pick-a-part do-it-yourself type on the West Coast??? If not, info on any SoCal f-body specialty yards would be appreciated...
Thanks

Re: Identifying governed (non-GSC-tired) cars...
If you look at the RPO sticker on the door jamb, the non-ZR tires were "QCB", and the ZR tires were either QFZ or QLC. Rear axles were:
GU2 2.73
GU4 3.08
GU5 3.23
GU6 3.42
The speed limiter can easily be removed by having the PCM reprogrammed by a tuner (such as http://www.pcmforless.com/ or http://www.madz28.com/), or swapping the PCM from a similar car.

Thanks a lot for the info. Now I can't wait to go see it and check this all out when I buy it. It's a pretty rare color so it's going to be a keeper if I can afford to maintain and feed it fuel...!

The RPO sticker could be inside the glovebox lid. After reading posts for 6 yrs. my latent memory tells me '93 thru '95 in the glovebox, '96 up on the door jam.
