Inspection

I just bought my z28 in january, it has hooker long tube headers and an offroad y-pipe with no cats. I need to get it inspected but I cannot get cats on it with my setup, any help on getting my car inspected would be appreciated.

Yes you can get cats on it with your setup. I can't remember the guy's name that's in the Plano area, but when I lived there I got a dual cat Y-pipe fabricated for emissions. Just ask around on any DFW local boards who they have their exhaust work done by. I really wish I could remember the guy's name! He is/was really popular amongst the f-body crowd. Just know getting a cat y-pipe made can be costly. Try TorqueCentral.com. I think he used to be a sponsor on that site.
Basically most shops will fab you up a y-pipe with cats. The problem usually lies with those fabing up an off road Y-pipe.

No Cats=failed inspection. That is the problem, no one thinks ahead to Emiaaion checks when installing parts.

Maybe he bought his car out of state? I know for a fact that Kansas does not have emissions, hence no cat(s) on my car.

My point is if you live in a State that has required Emission standards be careful it meets those standards when buy or mod a car. After the fact is BS when you know there are Emission tests. My opinion.

You can get cats on it, I installed a pair of 3" Pypes mini-cats on my Pacesetter off-road y-pipe and even though it is tight on the drivers side, the Pypes cat fits in their perfectly.

Any my point is, maybe he bought his car outside of the state of a Texas, from a state that is emissions exempt so the previous owner did not feel that they had to worry about it passing emissions. So before he bought the car he probably should have looked into that. That is how I was with my car when I put headers on it and got rid of the emissions systems since I don't have to pass an inspection.

Not true, my tree hugging friend.
I know of a few shops around this area who don't want to bother bending over to see if a car has cats if it's OBDII. Just plug/play and if it passes then you're golden. I've known of people to haul their "street" cars on trailers w/ cage, 28" slicks, dual exhaust dumped before the axle, loud as hell pass e-check. It's all in who you go to.

Problem with that is when you attempt to title an out-of-stater in TX, you have this RIDICULOUSLY LONG inspection that has to be performed before anything else can be done. Period.

Previous owner just tried to short cut things...

out of state

i will say that in texas when you buy an out of state car all you do is get a green sheet from the inspector showing you have passed the inspection and you take it to the dmv and to get it titled. i have done this several times and will also say that the only time you have a long inspection is if you buy a salvage title car and the first inspection is long and has to be taken to a dps station for a full saftey inspection. after that its all the same.
