just bought 94 z28

Hey what up. Just bought a black 94 z28. I payed 6000. It has 92000 miles. it has a moroso intake, bbk headers When I test drove the car every thing seemed fine i noticed a wired sound from the front. I think its the fan hitting the shroud. and it seemed kinda hard to strat like the batter is week or a weak starter got worse when hot. seemed to kinda run rough. other than that everything mechanical seemed fine. Checked the oil fine. tranny fine, coolent fine. all guages worked fine. so i went back the today and picked it up. Drove it home drove fine exept svs light came on and no heat and the rear defost dont work and the regular defost did not seem to work to good .but N-E-Ways could not tell u how strong it runs it is raining out. well i drive it home then about an hour later take it back out. well i am driving aound and pull to a stop light and notice that the check guage light was on and the oil pressure was really really low like 5psi (idle about 550 600). i put it in N and rev it a little oil psi jumped up instantly. well i drove it home. then about two hours after that i go to walmart and i get on the highway and stomp on it to about 4500 rpms and then let off. well i look down and the temp is all the way up so immediately kill it luckly costing onto a service road and it to a gas station pop the hood get out slowly open the radiator and no coolent so i was like ok just 10 min ago i open it and it was full so i start it back up and drive over to the water thingy and get out open the hood and water is boiling over. so i was like ok put the presure cap back on. and notice the over flow tank so i open it and it took quite a bit of water so i was like ok lets see how it does drive it to wal mart and back did ok. so now i dont now what to do i put 2500 down. and now i am broke and i dont know if i should try and take it back or should i just keep it or what. so for such a long post i guess i am kinda venting.

awww sounds like you are havin some bad luck BUT imho if you are noticing these problems now who knows what could happen down the road. Maybe the vehicle wasnt taken car of very well, A little bit of antifreeze is nothing now, but an engine overhaul later could cause some problems. just something to consider.....

Re: just bought 94 z28

You need to be realistic about what you want to do with your car. For example mine was stolen about 6 months ago and the engine and tranny were stolen. So i bought another LT1 core and am rebuilding it now. Im already into the motor for about 2k and havent done the top end yet. But i am trying to build something that will haul fanny If you do in fact need or want to do a rebuild expect to spend at the very least $1000. As far as the price goes I am a firm beleiver that once a deal is made it stands, unless the seller has purposely lied about info on the vehicle. I would go over the rest of the car with a fine tooth comb. Check for things like a bad w/p, OBD etc.
Again this is all imho just make well educated decisions what ever you do

I'd go back to where you got it and park it on the front lawn demanding my money back.

i think it's a little much for the car
i got mine with 51k for 6700 with no problems (other than a shot o2 sensor)
if you can, i'd get my money back as well
sorry to hear about your luck

Re: just bought 94 z28

I got my 94 Z28 last August for $6,800. T-tops, Leather (real good condition), like new interior carpet, Bose CD (not anymore!), 86k, usual front end rock chips, but I have gotten that fixed. Completly stock. I think I paid about what it was worth. I was looking at a bunch of others, and this fit in the ballpark. It was from the original owner, who was an older single guy, that had the order sheet thingie and it was ordered with 3.23 gears and stuff. No winters or dirt roads either..

I personally would get my money back, if possible. If I were to drop 6k on a 10+ year old car and have these problems on the home, god knows what'll happen down the road. For 6k, I'd want the damn thing to be mint.

Re: just bought 94 z28

ok well i change the oil to valvoline 20w50 Durablend. (half synt) the reasion i chose this is because auto zone had it on sale 2 each. I put 4qts of that and and a qt of lycas. the oil presure stay right at 15psi at 750rpms. and when rev up easily jumps to 50-55psi. as far as the heat i flushed the heater core and the heat seems to be working alot better. As far as the hard start i took the battery out of my truck and put it in and it turns over alot better. as far as the rought idle i ran a bottle of fuel injection cleaner trough it and spayed some Barymans B12 in the throtle body. and the MAF. idles alot smother. PROBLEMS NOW!!!!!!!! Still think that it is loosing coolent Drove it for like 35 min and let it run for about 20 min after. while idleing for 20 min temp went up to the 3/4 mark. drove it and temp istantanly went down. got home and had to add about a gallon of water. also when u take off fast it seems kinda rough untill about 3500 and then it smooths out and really runs strong.and also if doing about 50-55 and u just give it a little bit of gas (not enuff to kick down) it seems really rough. thanks for listing .

are your cooling fans working? i would definately make sure they are before you get this thing on the road. and have you bled the air out of the cooling system? you need to do that with this engine. i think the procedure is in the owners manual. later!

Yes the fans are working. they come on as soon as i turn the key on. and i bled all the air out of the system. Dont know the exact proceedure but i bled it and let it run for a while then bled it again. and then drove it around for a little while then bled it again. Both bleder screws. I and going to change the T-stat to a 180 tomarrow. Would a loose bolt in one of the fans cause it to over heat. how would i go about flushing the whole cooling system?

Another vote for taking this car back. I'm sorry but this car seems like it has a LOT wrong with it.
The fans SHOULD NOT come on as soon as the key turns unless you have a fault code set, or a manual fan switch set to "on".
This car needs to be scanned, and I'd make the seller do it at their cost.

Re: just bought 94 z28

You put 20w50 in? The only reason thats holding pressure it cause its so thick, its not easy on the oil pump though. BRING THE CAR BACK. The longer you wait the less chance you have. You bought a lemon, it's that simple. Make them fix the problems or refund the money.

Re: just bought 94 z28

Make a list of the things you found wrong with the car, take it to them and tell them to either fix it or you don't want the car and will take your money somewhere else.
