Just click, no start

I tried to start my 95 Z28 tonite and just got a click from the starter, It started fine the day before. I kept trying it and each time I got a solid click from the starter, eventually it did start after about 10 tries. So it sounds like I have power to the solenoid. Does it sound like the starter itself?
Thanks. Ron

I doubt the starter is bad. Probably either a dead battery or solenoid.

Probably a dead battery, charge the battery and take it a local Autozone/Advance and have them check it out to see if your alternator/battery are OK.

Thumbs up

Before you go buying a new battery, check your battery terminals. You might just have a loose or corroded connection.

Same thing happened to me. I replaced the battery with an Optima Red Top and it still clicks sometimes but will start after a few tries. The problem is probably in your starter solenoid.

Now this is assuming that you have good charge on the battery and when you hit the "start" position you get one "click" and then nothing, but if you keep trying eventually it will crank.

and check all the connections on the starter, a bad ground will prevent proper function.

Re: Just click, no start

If you want to test the condition of the starter, have someone with a hammer under the car by the starter, have someone in the cab turn the key to try to start the vehicle, when the clicking starts, have the person under the vehicle start hitting the starter, if the vehicle now starts, you have a bad starter bendix.

had a similar problem with my 95. turned out to be loose / corroded connections in that block that's on top of the passenger fender well. cleaned them up and double nutted it . did not have the problem again
