Keyless entry replacement remotes

I just recently got a car and it didnt come with the remotes for the keyless entry. Do I need to buy the originals from GM or are there good aftermarket remotes out there for around teh same price? Or would those only work if I have that system install in my bird?

Also for GM ones, if I were to buy one from Ebay how can I be sure that I a getting the right one for my car? I see the auctions posting something like

Part # GM/UTA 25678792

CANADA: 1983 101 393

FCC ID# KOBUT1BT

in their auctions, but is there any way to tell if it would actually work wit the 99 Firebird?

To those who saw this topic in the lunge I thought that it should be here instaed.

Look for RPO code AU0 (remote entry lock control).

Re: Keyless entry replacement remotes

I am not saying anyone will work. But I know they are fairly universal. For a very long time I was using one from a 95 thunderbird for my 95 camaro. I am now using the same one for my 98 escort, even though the one that orignally comes with the 98 escort is the newer fancier one.

EDIT: I just noticed you aren't even sure you have keyless entry. You'd better check that RPO code first to make sure.

if you do have the AU0 RPO

look here for new remotes at good prices

this is probably the one you will need, $29.99 each

I paid less than $15 for a keyless remote off of eBay.

Re: Keyless entry replacement remotes

Well, it is a little late. I just bought a remote on ebay for like 20 bucks. If that doesn't work then I will buy one of these. Either way I am saving a good sum of money.
