lift off

I've been looking at replacing the hood on the Z with a lift-off model. Most of the hoods I've been seeing also have the for drag race use only or off road use only disclaimers. Is this simply a CYA for the companies because they don't include the safety latch on the hoods, or is something like where the hoods are known to break apart during sustained 80mph freeway runs?

Its just not practical for those reasons. They have to be fastened down with pins, and even then it may bounce around at speed and look like its about to fly off. Not an option for a daily driver, IMO.

I agree it is not a good idea. Plus, the damned thing would be a bitch to remove and put on. Spend the extra bucks and get a bolt on.

I think removing a bolt on is a bitch to remove and put on, I can't imagine a lift off being more difficult, especially in a fourth gen where I have to deal with the lift struts. I routinely remove the hood if I'm doing anything beyond basic maintenence type stuff like air filter/oil level/coolant check.

If I got a bolt on style fiberglass hood, would they typically be too thick to use a Dzus type fastener with it?
