Question Light Bulb in Door

My light bulb in my passenger side door above the power window and power door lock has blown out. I'm guessing this bulb is about the size of a BB.

Have any of you ever had this bulb blow out? If so, do you just take the piece of plastic off that covers it to access it? Where can I find this bulb at?

Thanks.

Yes unscrew the cover. There are 2 screws, 1-behind the door handle and 1-under the window switch, towards the front of the car.

You have to go to the dealer for the bulb.

After looking in Wal-Mart for a bulb that small, I figured I had to go to the dealer to buy it. Thanks for the info. though.

I went to the Chevy dealer about an hour ago and they didn't have it in stock, so the guy gave me the part number and I went to Advanced Auto Parts and the dude there had NO idea what I was talking about. Maybe AutoZone or Napa will have it.

Also, another question. I just took the top of the door apart to look at this bulb, how the hell do you remove this thing? I tried to pull the wiring harness off, but it doens't want to budge and the actual bulb itself doesn't seem like it wants to come out either. How did you guys get your bulb out in the past?

The generic number for the bulb is L-70 and the GM part number is 9437979.

If you order the part from GM, it comes complete with micro bulb, socket, and new wires. Simply splice, solder and tape up the connections.

Push in the socket and twist counter clockwise.

Apparently you never replaced this kind of bulb. (Maybe on your Ford focus) It's not just a bulb, it’s a special micro-bulb & socket as one serviceable unit.

That's a lot of work just to replace a bulb, especially splicing and soldering. I don't understand why it wasn't designed so you can just pop the old bulb out and a new one in.

I seriously thought this would be like changing a light bulb in a lamp.

Well that's GM; they designed it so the bulb doesn’t pop out of the socket which would explain your frustration in trying to do so.

I don't know what you're talking about. I simply unscrewed it and replaced it. Now if I can find the part #, I'll get it for you. Now, I did this myself, so I personally know there was no splicing or soldering of any kind.

Sorry, I have to rase the flag.

We are talking about the very very small light above the window switch and door lock? If so, then yes, I did get it out. It's a simple either counter or normal clockwise motion to remove the plastic around it and reveal the bulb. I have to get to my uncle's to find the # just because it is currently getting worked on over there. Hopefully I'll have an answer about the # by the end of today. I can even get the exact instructions out of my service manuals if need be. Why would I have any reason to lie about this is what I'm wondering?

Edit- For some reason I keep wanting to think it was a standard 194 bulb but I'd have to go check.

Re: Light Bulb in Door

The owner's manual says it is a #74 bulb, but a bulb number and GM part number was posted in the sixth reply in this thread.

Re: Light Bulb in Door

I'm taking a guess here based on similar work in other 90s GM cars. Perhaps the Autozone bulb has a couple metal leads coming off it? Maybe the GM one comes with a socket, but you can actually remove the bulb by straightening the leads, and then reuse the socket? They do a ton of dash bulbs that way. Good Luck!
