lt1 and ls1

I have a 95 Z28 Im really considering getting a Ls1 to put in it. I want to know the pros and cons of the Ls1 Im pretty educated on the Lt1 I know them well. Mod for mod what is the better motor. I know the ls1 has some more power stock for stock. In the end when you have them side by side what can take more abuse and or last longer.

LS1 is much better all around for power. No contest. Mod for mod it will always win. The ONLY category the Lt1 wins is sound. I also think the LT1 body style is better.

Other than that, if you are into power, then LS1 is the way to go hands down.

The LSx aftermarket is huge in comparison as well. Way more options.

Lt1 gets no respect anymore.

I also believe your manhood grows a few magical inches with the LSx.

LS1= Response better to mods. LT1= Response better to mods, BUT, not like the LS1.

That all depends on your luck. Both motors are very strong and can take a lot of torture.

For the amount of money necessary for an LSx swap you could EASILY make a TON of power out of the LT1 you already have.

You could probably run 11s (LT1-400+hp for the cost of running barely 12s (LS1 swap-300hp).

I'd mod the hell out of the LT1, if it were me.

Both motors can take alot of abuse. I agree that the LS1 is ahead in the game. Depending on your goals, the LT1 can easily get you there just as the LS1 can. Depends on what you want to do. People are making some very good power with LT1 stroker motors.

I notice

That no matter what the LS1 is always about 40-50 HP higher then the Lt1 in adders. I was looking at Turbo's and Superchargers and if you try and match it the LS1 is always about 40 HP ahead. I like the underdog and in the future everybody will have an LSX motor in there F-body and I want to be proud to say years down the road that its an LT1 but by then they will ask what an LT1 is. I was thinking about putting an LS3 or LS7 5 years from now becuase the power and better gas mileage versus an LT1 but like I said I love the sound, look, and the low end muscle the Lt1 has and I want people to know that I beta them with an LT1. Well by then I would have to make it a 383 to keep up with the LS3 and other LS7.

Plus 1997 was the last year and whats better then having the last year of the motor.

the advantage that the LS1 has over the LT1 is flow

LS1 heads flow 300+, where its very rare to see an LT1 head flow that.

I may only be talking outta my *** here but if you're building your motor you're not going to keep your heads stock, so that doesn't matter. Unless all aftermarket LS1 heads are better than ANY aftermarket LT1 heads... please tell me if I'm wrong...

I used to get pissed off when people would come in the threads and rain on peoples parades about doing V8 swaps in V6 cars. Boy, am I glad I didn't go through with that. I'd suggest just modifying the LT1.. The LS1 is great, but its certainly not worth going through ALL the extra trouble getting that thing in there. You'll spend probably 2000$-3000$ getting EVERYTHING you need.. imagine the stuff you could get for your LT1 for that cash.

Of course I'm lucky, I happen to have one of each.. and I still prefer the "feel" of the LT1.
