LT1 is not the same as LT-1!

I was at Wikipedia, reading about the history of Chevy smallblocks, when I found this:

LT-1

Years: 1970-1972

The LT-1 was the ultimate 350 V8, becoming available in 1970. It used solid lifters, 11:1 compression, a high-performance camshaft, and a Holley four-barrel carburetor on a special aluminum intake to produce 370 hp (276 kW) and 380 ft·lbf (515 N·m). It was available on the Corvette and Camaro Z28. Power was down in 1971 to 330 hp (246 kW) and 360 ft·lbf (477 N·m) with 9:1 compression, and again in 1972 (the last year of the LT-1) to 255 hp (190 kW) and 280 ft·lbf (380 N·m).

Note that there was a later small-block engine called the "LT1".
I don't know if this was common knowledge, but I'll be sure not to put a dash in LT1 ever again!

Some people get very upset over this.

Only problem I have ever had is when talking to old school guys about a gen2 lt1 they get really confused.

Only some of us geezers get those 2 confused. Some of us go back way farther than 1970.

It is among the older crowd. In fact, I remember being quite annoyed that they would have the nerve to call some fuel-injected puff-piece an "LT1".

Give me my solid cam, 750 double pumper and side pipes dammit!

It's kind of silly though.

You wanna know something else? Something about names and the passage of time?

When I first came on the car scene, which was long enough ago that Scotty Shafiroff was still driving his '77 Monza and Vin Diesel wasn't even an itch in his Daddy's pants; we called it "NOSS" (Pronounced like 'Hoss', from Bonanza.) and we didn't care that the gas was nitrous and that NOS was a brand name.

we had a thread about this on another forum. basically, the LT-1 was a high performance 350cid motor that came in a limited number of vettes and z/28's from the 70-72 years or thereabouts.

To a lot of people it's considered the best carbureted production small block to ever hit the streets. The fact that GM is reusing old engine #s again doesn't really bother me, since they all live up to their old engine's name IMO.

Yep, the LS6 was the 450 hp 454 optional in '70 Chevelle SS (1971 too, maybe). Then, of course, it was the C5 Z06 engine later.

I always did like the LT-1, even though I'm a Pontiac guy. For me
there was nothing like the RA-IV. Based on how well many of you guys
are doing on this board, the LT1 is living up to it's name too.

Being an old school guy, all I can say is DUH! Probably anyone with a little "age" knows an LT-1 is not an LT1. Young pups don't.

Re: LT1 is not the same as LT-1!

This is really weird, because me and a guy at my work were having a conversation about the old LT-1 today. I never knew there was one. I did however know about the old LS6's from my grandfathers 70 chevelle SS.

Quick Reply: LT1 is not the same as LT-1!
