Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

I've also had both and the magnaflow sounds much better with LT then it did with the shorties and the cam lope is more pronounced with the magnaflow. But then again, I drive a LT1 and they sound different then the ls1. Cameron

thats pretty odd!!! lots of the fbod owners like the magnaflow and bash on flowdisaster. the blowmaster is supposed to make you lose hp because it doesnt flow well at all. but if you love the sound then go for it.

If this is true and it is a sound preference then all you would have to do is get an electric cut-out and you will not have to worry about performance losses.

Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

realize 10hp is gonna be hard to notice realisticaly.

the flowmaster has a VERY distinct sound, no doubt about that...nothing i've really heard compares.

however i really do like the sound of the MF.

which did you replace...the whole system or just the muffler?

i know on my MF catback, just inside the inlet of the muffler there is a baffle that directs about 2/3rds of the exhaust out the passenger side pipe...without ANY muffling. the rest is directed through the muffler and out the driverside pipe.
this could be different on a standard MF muffler only (not the catback).

with 2/3rds of the exhaust being basically straight pipe...the flow has to be better than any muffler

Granted I'm in an LT1 car, but SLP CAI/ Magnaflow catback gave me a 26 RWHP increase.

You might wanna wait until the break in period it sounds much better after that. I hated the way it first sounded but after it breaks in you get a more glass pack kinda sound.

Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

I just slapped on the MF muffler only about a couple weeks ago. It sounds great on the LS1...deeper rumble than stock. And yeah, it basically has the single curved baffle to direct some flow out the passenger side pipe and then its straight through flow otherwise with a glass-pack-like design. Very nice muffler I thought for about $120 CDN brand spanking new!

Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

i bought my Z used. it had just the flowmaster muffler. i loved the way it sounded. it was not raspy and did not crackle. people told me to get rid of it, but the gains from just a muffler would not be huge, so the difference would not be soo bad. i kept it due to the sound. i loved it. but now i have gone to LT's and an open cutout. the car still sounds mean with it closed running through the flow, but gotta love the open headers sound too

go back to the flowmaster, it sounds better
