Manual fan switch problem

I am burning up on average 6 pairs of switches a summer, I am using high quality 30w switches, with 20w fuses....but they just keep burning up (something in them must melt because they dont actually rock back and forth anymore) How do I fix this annoying problem?

Re: Manual fan switch problem

use relays, not just a switch

Re: Manual fan switch problem

You have to use relays or next time you may have a fire. Go to the auto part store and pick up a couple 30amp relays and wire those in. No more burnt switches and less chance for fire.

Re: Manual fan switch problem

lol, i did have a small fire. The wire from the fuse box burned off all the insulation up to my console where I had the switch. Good thing my shift boot bracket was broken, so i could get to it quickly and get it out. I was also lucky in that I zip tied it through the firewall on the drivers side to the bottom of all the other wires and it melted the zip ties and just fell to the ground. I have a piece of that wire still attached to my shoe.

Re: Manual fan switch problem

This is why you should use ground operated relays and not run power wires through the firewall. It's just a whole lot better/safer.

The wiring diagrams on my website show how I prefer to do a fan switch. No additional relays are needed.
