Re: Manuel fluid change
Heh, Fred beat me by three minutes.
Just to clarify a bit, the T56 takes automatic transmission fluid. Any synthetic fluid is fine. Dexron 3 and Mobil 1 ATF are the most common choices.
There is a fill plug on the side. When you’ve added enough fluid, it’ll start spilling out from there, assuming the trans is level.

Re: Manuel fluid change
I changed the fluid in my T56 years ago and honestly don't recall using a gallon. Now I'm worried I need to check it. What exactly are the upsides of getting older?

Re: Manuel fluid change
Hey Fred I finished the fluid change,I got 4 quarts in when I was underneath the car. When I got the last bottle in,near the end of the quart I seen the signal of it dripping out that it was full. I manage to catch a lil in the pan. But should I at least take the shifter out from inside to top it off to be sure it's full. Or not worry about it. Thank you sir

Re: Manuel fluid change
It's full. Don’t add any more.
You fill it until the fluid just starts to drip out of the fill plug. It's easier to remove the fill plug, and then remove the shifter and pour fluid in there, having someone watch to see when the fluid drips out the fill hole. The manual indicates the quantity is “approximate”.
Manual clearly states “When transmission is full, lubricant will just drip out fill plug opening.”
