Most annoying rattle /vibration ever

Okay my e-brake handle return spring is vibrating from the tunnel mount torque at certain speeds. It is god awful annoying.

What is the best way to stop this without effecting the springs function?

Its the return spring on the e-brake handle vibrating. Very similar to what a guitar string does when it is plucked. It just starts humming when the car is at certain speeds.

For example if you could hold on to it for troubleshooting purposes only while driving it would not make a sound.

You can attach something to the spring to damp the vibration.

I can't picture how much room you have to work with, but if you can tie some small strands of cut rubber bands onto the ends of the spring, that should work...

It's the same concept on racket strings or bow strings...

I think there is plenty of room for a mod. I had been thinking something similar like what you said. Like a rubber sheath or something that would dampen it.

Yes, if you can put a rubber sleeve over it, or stuff a peice of foam or something like that inside the spring, it should work.
