No ignition

Hello and thanks to anyone taking the time to read this. Recently my car began to randomly shut off on the road. It has always started back up quickly but this time that's not the case. The car does not respond at all with the ignition turned on. The gages do not come on, the dash lights won't come on, no security light, and ofcouse the car doesn't crank, no response at all.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be happy to hear them. Thank you again for your time.

Re: No crank...

Read Shoebox's writeup on the ignition switch:

http://shbox.com/ignsw/ign_switch_repl.html

And this isn't "Advanced Tech" material..... let's move it to General 67-02 F-Body Tech.

Re: No crank...

Sorry about posting in the wrong section. I was suspecting it may have been the ignition switch myself. I tested the thick red wire running up the steering column. I Probed the wire and it was getting fire. I then probed the thick yellow wire running back from the steering column and i got nothing with the key on or off. That led me to believe it was the ignition switch. I the probed the wires leadinging into the security system. When I probed the thin yellow wire I must have triggered something because the car lit up and turned over but did not start. The car is equipped with a after market remote start. I'm thinking I may have more than one problem. Perhaps the remote start isn't what's causing my main problem but it still needs to be adressed. Thank you injuneer for the help.
