No Start

Hi I have a 94 z28 Camaro. Wont start I thought maybe the starter was bad, but last night I noticed the battery wouldn't charge then I noticed the positive cable was exposed a bit and corroded at the top part connected to battery and I have side post. So I'm thinking maybe it's not the starter. CAN ANYONE HELP.

Re: No Start

When you turn the key to “START” what happens? Nothing....clicking only.... starter turns but doesn’t engage???

Corroded terminals and cable strands on the main battery cables can cause poor/or lack of charging, and not enough power to engage the starter.

Re: No Start

Remove the cable from the battery, and check the battery terminal surface and the cable surface for corrosion. Clean all surfaces with an abrasive. Flex the end of the cable to see if the terminal just breaks off. If the strands of the wire are starting to break off, the cable should be replaced. Check the starter end of the positive cable, and the chassis ground end of the ground cable for corrosion and damage.

And, the battery may be dead, with an open circuit that prevents charging. Have the battery tested by an auto parts store.

If the cable is good, no corrosion, and the battery checks out good, could be an issue with the ignition switch. Not unusual to find burned terminals and melted plastic on the switch in these 20+ year old cars.

Re: No Start

The battery cable is coming loose from the top of the wire as you can see in the picture and the bare wire is corroded. I work at a parts store so I will test or replace battery.
