Normal for A/C coolant port to vent pressure after use?
I charged my A/C because it was very very low on coolant. After charging the coolant port slightly whistled and was venting pressure. Is that normal? 10 minutes later and it's still very slightly venting pressure. If this is not normal, could this explain why I was so extremely low on coolant?
One thing I noticed is that I didn't have a dust cap on the port, I must have lost it the last time I worked on the system. Perhaps the port was dirty and didn't seal properly when it was supposed to close?
Any advice?
Thanks!

Yeah, the compressor won't turn on once again. That leak must be the source of the problem.
Any advice on how to stop that leak? I'd hate to have to replace the line. Perhaps there's a cap that I can put on the port, or a bolt since the port is threaded.

It's a shrader valve, pretty much the same thing as a tire pressure valve. Maybe it didn't reset properly when removing the gauges - or it's just loose. Try tightening it first. If it's bad and needs replacing it'll vent all the referigerant if removed and the system will need to be vacuumed before recharging.

You need to replace the schrader valve and replace the plastic cap. I have seen several posts on an a/c board that say the plastic cap is the main seal but with a valve leaking that much it need to be replaced. I think your best bet is to take it to a shop as you will have to evacuate the system after changing the valve before you can charge it.
