Re: ok weird question

A fender cover might help but those fenders are plastic. Sure they have some give but if the person is leaning on the fender to reach in the eng. comp to work on it:

he/she should've lowered the car down on a hoist with the wheels removed to make eng access easier without having to lean in on the fender too much

OR

Stand on a platform of some kind above the fender line again to make eng comp access easier.

Seems like they were doing neither and were negligent, they should repair the damage to the fenders without cost to you. If they don't time for small claims.

BTW no question here is weird...........to you this is an issue and you want answers that's why MB's exists.

I would at least try to confront them in a civil manner and discuss it with them. After all, if the damage was done by them, then they should indeed be liable. It will cost some dough to get that kind of damage fixed.

Yep.

I'm a mechanic, in my shop this would have been unacceptable. We use fender covers to make sure the fenders aren't scratched. If we HAVE to get into the engine bay (sometimes necessary on certain cars, not on fbodys though...) we use a mat to lay on.
