Overheating problem...

ok the other night wen i was driving my car overheated and discharged the antifreeze and everything else it does wen that happens bc the waterpump went ..so i just went and got another waterpump and thermostat and put them in last night and then i let the car run..filled it with coolant/water mix and then primed the system...but now wen it runs...the temperature gauge rises pretty quickly to 235 and i have a 180 deg. thermostat in there...and it repeatedly heats up wayyy too quickly and doesnt hold a temp. Can anyone help me figure out wut is wrong with this??? I was thinkin that maybe the cooling fans arent running and pulling the heat off of the radiator but maybe u guys know something i dont.

Did you put the thermostat in backwards?

Re: Overheating problem...

no...everything is re-installed correctly...i just went out to the car recently though and let it run and the temperature went up to 235 and rising and i put my hand behind where the fans are and u cant hear them running and u cant feel any air being pushed around from them...so im guessing the temperature sending switch that plugs into the waterpump and attaches to the fans to turn them on is not working....$30 part..not a big deal and easy to fix...but i wanted to find out if anyone else knew something about this problem that i didnt..

Re: Overheating problem...

Bleed the air out of the system. There are 2 bleed screws on radiator hoses near the throttle body.

Re: Overheating problem...

check on the water pump itself and see that you connected the sensor back on which controls the temp on the pcm.

Re: Overheating problem...

Try bleeding it again, unless you got a leak somewhere there is probably just air in the system OR you got a bad thermostat which has been known to happen.

Re: Overheating problem...

well i know for a fact that the two thermostats i have (both 180 deg.) are in working order...did a lil test where u drop them in a boiling pot of water and if they open and then close wen run under cooler water they work....but the temp control is what is throwing me off...because everything is working fine except for the fans...they are not turning on at all even when the temp is well above 210...and as far as the sensor being connected...it is...i checked a lil bit ago...so now im still confused as to what the problem is...i think the sensor that is connected to the water pump that controls the fans is just bad....i mean it seems like that is the only other thing that could cause the car to gradually warm up and continue as it passes the 210 mark...because the fans just arent pulling the heat away from the radiator...sound right???

Scroll down the page on shoebox's site and it tells you how to test the fans:

Re: Overheating problem...

maybe your rad is bad?

I had overheating problems with my old half ton when the rad went

Just an idea since it seems like you have looked at everything else in the cooling system
