Pass. Headlight Motor making loud noise on 99 firebird

My dad went to change the headlights on my brothers 99 firebird and to do so he tried to screw the headlight up manually using the **** on top of the motor. For some reason it wouldnt go up so he just turned the lights on, changed the headlight and turned them off and all was fine.

Now when he goes to turn the head lights off, the pass headlight goes down but when the lights get all the way to the down position, the motor continues to turn for about 5 seconds and it makes a horrible noise.

Also, everytime you lock the doors now, both headlights come up and then go back down and they didnt do that before. The only thing that happened before was the daytime running lights or fog lights (cant remember which) blink and the horn sounds.

Any idea what is going on with the headlight? It almost seems like the headlight is supposed to trip a sensor or something when it gets all the way to the down position but it isnt making that switch and the motor continues to run. I have no idea why the lights pop up and go back down when you lock the doors now though.

Any help is appreciated.

Probably the headlight gear. Do a search for "headlight fix".

I am going to try rotating the gear 180 degrees and see if that solves my problem. Does anyone have an idea why the headlights pop up and go back down with you press the lock button twice on the remote keypad???

Everything worked out exactly as described. Took the linkage off, rotated the shaft 180 degrees and reassembled. Works just like it did from the factory. Thanks to all that helped.
