portpros or CNC port...?
I was getting ready to send out some dart pro 1 230's to get hogged out for my 434. I have seen an researched alot as far as head porters go, and cant help but notice that some numbers look great but seem to me to be maybe a little inflated. I have gotten numbers from $500 to over $1000 to fully port these heads and I want to make it worth my while. The intake will be getting ported to match. Right now, heads are still bare. If I cant find a comfortable solution here, I will sell the heads and intake and get something I feel better with.
Does anybody have experience with portpros and can you tell me if their advertised numbers are accurate?
Here's an example:
average answer(CNC): portpros(hand port):
Bore: 4.060” Bore 4.100
245cc port unknown port size
Intake 2.080” 2.15"(wow)
.200 153 136.4
.300 215 201.9
.400 264 255.9
.500 292 295.5
.600 309 322.1
.700 316 336.9
Exhaust 1.600”
.200 112 none
.300 156
.400 206
.500 226
.600 236
.700 240
Seems the portpro's heads flow bigger numbers up top but I am attributing some of this to bore and valve size. Since the CNC is more accurate I am tending to point in that direction now instead of toward peak flow. What has me kind of concerned is that even for the stock heads in the same configuration I have seen the flow numbers as low as 285 and as high as 310, so I guess what I could use here is advice. If it just comes down to a basic pocket port and bowl blending, hell I can do that, been there. Anyone?

I have heads and an intake there right now and am also getting a custom grind through them. I don't have my stuff back yet but I can tell you that they have a VERY good reputation locally and that is why I chose them. You should call the shop and talk to Harold he can answer all of your questions and has tons of experience with all kinds of motors.
