Power steering Problem

I was wondering what could be the problem with my power steering. When i first start the car the wheel turns fine wile parked or at a stop. After driving for around 2-5min the wheel gets hard and the power steering goes bad. It dont make that much noise like the pump went bad. Think i need a new pump? The car has 36k. Thanks

Try the general F-body tech section, you'll get more views there anyway. I have no idea what your problem could be!? Is it loosing any fluid?

Well, if it was that low, that might have done it. And if it was that low, it's gotta be losing fluid. Steering fluid doesn't just go away on it's own.

Re: Power steering Problem

I had the same problem with my 97 camaro. Before i could ever replace it i had the a/c making wierd noices and the alternator making wierd noices too. Plus many other things wrong with it too. I had enuff cause the car would over heat if the A/C was not on. I traded it in for a mini van long story. I wish you luck finding it. Maybe the power steering pump or something to do with the rack and pinion the fluid runs through. No idea. I am currently deployed and will be home next month i m trading it in for a camaro or a trans am. My question is what year can i buy for 10,000. I am trading it in equal value towards anything i want. I am thinking 1999 or 2000.

Might want to mention the specific year of your car and engine.... power steering had several different configurations over the course of the F-Body's 36 year history.

Add a "signature" so people know what kind of car you are asking about, and can help you with more specific information.

Re: Power steering Problem

Oyea one more thing. The only way the steering wheel was easy to turn was put the car in neutrual and rev it to make it turn easy. Imagine pulling into a parking space doing that in a automatic lol Not fun. It became more of a chore to steer it than it was fun driving.
