problem with window *pics included*
My drivers side window hasn't been working well for a while now. It would get stuck about half way up and I'd have to pull it the rest of the way, it would knock when I closed the door and it's never aligned properly. I decided to take the cover off the door and see what was wrong and this is what I saw.
I did a blind search in the door with my hand and all I found was an old plastic bottle cap. This is what happens when I roll the window up without physically guiding it.
And this is the window when the door is closed, it's too high.
The window misses the hook it's supposed to catch in the front and as you saw, that thing in the back is not connected either. I tried popping that thing back in but it seems like it won't fit. Any idea on how to fix this?
(There's a forest fire going on right now, that's what all that ash is from)

See post #4. Guide 3 broke off the main rail.
It also looks like the window guide on the top edge of the door is broken. It's the gold colored metal piece held on with one bolt. There should be 2 on each door. Compare the broken one in the pic to a known good one and see what I mean.

Same thing happened to my window channel, a roller was ripped off. It was a PITA getting the rivets out of there. I used screws to replace them, and thanked myself when I had to replace the regulator on the same window.
For the rivets the easiest way to get them out is punch out that center pin with a hammer and punch, then drill out the rivet head. You will have to guide the window past the stops and out of the door. I left the motor attached so I could roll the window up and down with the button, plus it keeps the spring from messing with you while you try to work. Then remove the far left vertical channel (3 nuts, make sure you mark where they were or your window will be out of alignment!), then slide the channel off the regulator rollers. Pull it out the top, and that was the hard part! Then just put it all back together, don't forget to grease the new channel!
Good luck with that, it can be frustrating. Just have patience, or you could break something else...

It's an all day fix.First get a new window holder rail thing,(about $50.00 from g.m.)Might as well get a new (rebuilt) motor from Autozone.(your in there anyway.)I used 2 plastic pipes to hold the window up,because you want the window out of the way when you are working on this. You will need a mirror or two to see what your doing.By the way,the smoke from the fire is really strong here to,and some of my friends from Canyon country might be sleepin here tonight.Shoebox has the good site for replaceing window motors.Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info guys. At least the stabilizer is an easy fix, already ordered a replacement for that one. I think I'll take it to a shop this weekend and have them weld the stud back on, I like working on my car and all, but I don't mix well with power tools.
