Question SCV broke on stock Monsoon ('02 SS)?

Must ask for a little patience from all, this is my 1st post, but have already found a ton of useful shate here just from poking around.

Have an '02 SS with the stock Monsoon stereo and the SCV does not seem to work. It did not stop working, it has never seemed to work right (bought the car new). Thought it was my imagination and it was just not making much adjustment (hard to tell with the top down, but doesnt seem to do anything even when set to the highest setting (fully CCW). We have another GM car that it works well in (diffrent style head unit), and other similar head units seem to make a BIG adjustment on the max setting with changes in speed.

Anyone have any guidance as to what to track back in the electrical? I understand it takes a feed from somewhere for vehicle speed, but trying to figure what feeds it, what signals I should look for at various speeds and where to read it (i.e. where in the main signal bus/what pin). This may be as simple as a loose connection somewhere, but would appreciate a suggested starting point (preferrably one that is easily accessable ). I may be "nukeing" this a little, but I can't find much documentation on this radio. It is still under warantee, but I have no trust or faith in the local stealer's (lack of) service department.

I know this may seem a little trivial, but these type of little qwirks **** me off !

Thanks in advance!
Allen

Whats SCV???

Are you talking about the auto volume control? If so I beleive there is a microphone mounted in the dash panel next to your alarm light. That feeds right to the BCM and then to the radio. There's nothing to service or trouble shoot. If it's under warrenty I'd just go to the dealer, they will probaly replace the radio.

Re: SCV broke on stock Monsoon ('02 SS)?

Thanks for the reply- yes SCV refers to the speed controlled volume.

As I understand it, the head unit (stereo) takes a speed input from the ECU (vice a noise monitor microphone). Granted, I may well be mis-informed, but that is how I thought it worked. Anyone with more facts, pls chime in (that's what I'm after )! I am trying to find out if anyone has details as to what wire the signal comes into the head unit on and what actually feeds it (ECU, speedo, telapathy/osmosis ect....), so I can trace it back.

I am a bit of a wire-head twidget to begin with, but I can't find any good wiring diagrams what address more than the basic functions such as main power feeds, and I have found nothing trying a search for Delco or Monsoon to get details for the head unit.

Still looking..... Come on- there's gotta be a few sound system installers out there that have had to run this back!

Thanks,
Allen

you said the highest setting is CCW... CCW would be to the left, which means it would be the lowest setting..

Typo, or is that the problem?

Yea, typo. Regardless of the setting, even all the way up CLOCKWISE (the little **** pointing to abt 11:00) there is no change with changes in speed.

Have set up to take the car in for a warantee service, but as I said I dont trust these stealers as far as I can throw my house. I have seen too many of their screw-ups (the car in worse shape than before it went in) and they have little respect for other's stuff in keeping it clean and not scratching stuff up. I know this sounds like a rant against these guys, but I am even thinking of taking pics to compare after I get her back.

You have any (or know where I can find) any schematics/wiring diagrams that detail the stereo wiring harnesses and interfaces- maybe some .PDF files?

Thanks,
Allen

Yeah it is speed controlled. I notice mine starts kicking up the volume at 30MPH.

Think I found the wire, but what feeds the signal and what should be present (i.e. voltage levels). I did not find anything out of the ordinary, but now I am trying to determine if the issue is the head unit or whatever feeds it. Will actually prob swap head units for something new anyway, but need to know if the input is normal.

Thanks,

Allen
