SIR Coil

Well I am finishing up putting my 94 back together from the previous owner and I found what I believe to be the SIR coil that goes on the steering column for the air bag. Part # on it is: GM 26036296

My question is do I have to have this part to keep the air bags from deploying when I hook a battery up to the car? will this cause the SIR light to stay on?

Here is a pic:

Thanks,
Mike

Without the coil, the bag would not deploy and the airbag light will be on all the time. If you want the system to think it's working correctly but use another steering wheel and not have the light. Put the coil together with the firing mechanism from the steering wheel with duct tape and connect it like normal to the harness. Simply tuck it under the dash.
