so i am shopping for a new convertible top now...
man do i feel like a redneck right now, i just used about a half a roll of duct tape to temporarily attach the back window to my convertible top.. the bottom of where the back window meets the material seperated this morning on the way into work. i wouldn't have worried about it right away, but it started raining like a champ when i got home..
i have done a quick search on this forum, but could not find any companies that anyone bought their top from, so could any of you that have replaced a convertible top lately please gimme a heads up on a good company to buy a new one, with glass, from..
i am considering getting a complete top, frame and all, from tacreations, and see it to be around 650 shipped from some of your posts.. but if i am going to spend the money, i would prefer to purchase a new one.
i found one on ebay:
click
and will probably go that route if someone can vouch for the company..
thanks ahead of time..

This is fairly common and I know of one member who "glued" the window back on with black RTV.
You do not have to replace the entire top. The back window Panel is a separate piece so if the rest of the top is in good condition you don't need to replace it.
I had this done in 2002 at an upholstery shop for $479.00 complete.

ahh, i see... so if i reuse my old glass, i can get a break on the price.. makes sense, and for under 500 dollars total, sounds like a good idea to me..
hmm. but do you think that the new top with the new glass will have the same longevity as the old glass getting reattached to the new top.
i ask because i want to deal with this once, for maybe the next 5-10 years. that was why i was leaning more towards the new top with new glass. but i guess if yours is still going strong, then it shouldnt be a problem.
thanks for the reply too.

I had my top replaced including the rear glass piece. Cost $500 for the top and $500 labor. I thought that was a heck of a deal because it is the "good" top and not the cheaper version. I couldn't be happier. Like you are thinking... with a convertible top, I think it's worth it to spend a few hundred extra and just get a new one.

I obviously didn't explain very well. The rear Panel includes the fabric and the glass. So you get a new panel with new glass that replaces the old panel and glass. If you look at the top you can see that the rear panel is a separate piece from the rest of the top.
In my case the top was in excellent condition and only the window had separated from the rear panel. A real problem down here in the Texas sun.
If the car had been just a little older I probably would have replaced entire top.

I had the same problem in 2001 when I first got my Z. I just went to Autozone and bought an epoxy kit and glued it back on. It still doesn't leak almost 5yrs later. Shops around here wanted 500 dollars + to replace it!!!! 8 dollars and it's fixed. Hope this helps.
