speedo sticking

ok well i went to the t4rack last night and had an awesome time. anyhow while i was driving home i noticed that my speedo was sticking. when i am stopped it is stuck on 20 or so, and when i go it will jump between speeds. it doesnt have the fluid like movement from previous. the only way i had a good idea what my speed is from my tach. any ideas?

I bet the gauge went bad. Can you plug a scanner into it and see if the PCM is geting the correct speed from the VSS?

Well, I guess I made some assumptions. I have no idea what kind of car you have. You should go to usercp -> edit signature and create a signature that contains some basic info on your car like year/make/model and what mods it has on it.

I assumed you had a 4th gen with electric speedometer. If you have an older car with a cable driven speedo the problem is different.

Re: speedo sticking

ok well i drove my z yesterday and when i started it up the service engine soon light stayed on. i called the local dealer they want 85 bucks just to hook it up to a computer to see what the diagnostics is. is there a handheld i can get that will do this for me? i thought that there was something called a scanmaster. i work nights and usually its about 14hrs, so i am not around much but i have the next few days off and would like to take care of this any help would be appreciated. by theway the car only has 16,500mi.

Re: speedo sticking

You can get a scanmaster but they are $200+ but a good tool to have. If you have a laptop it might be cheaper to get a cable and scan it that way.
