wow now that is amazing. You really got shafted by some bastards. If I found them I say break there [EDIT] fingers so they will probably understand never to do that kind of stuff. I mean honestly who steals a hood? The world seems to be going to hell in a handbasket. Make sure you listen around for rumors about it. I had quite a few things stolen from me before (not a hood though) and it turned out to be someone close to me and they even hinted to it. If you can remember someone that told you "I really like that hood or wish I had one, or those are really valuable hoods" these kinds of comments are key when trying to figure out who did it. Don't be suprised if it was someone close to you. It always seems to be that way.

Sorry to hear about the loss..

yup, if equiped with it. just sit in your car use your remote to lock the doors and wait a few mins, then open your door from the inside (without using your remote to unlock the door)... should set the alarm off...

i know mine does and it will do the same if you break into the rear hatch...

i really dont think they went inside the car... but for all i know the doors may not have been locked... not placing blame, just doubt they accually broke in and released the hood...
i would think if they would have they would just take the whole car...

It'd be pretty tough to actually start the car. VATS can be overridden, but it's not a 5-minute job like unbolting a hood.

Yeah, but you have to open up the steering column to do it. I'll bet that two guys could undo the four bolts on the hood and carry it away faster than one guy could override VATS.

That thing works just fine, I cranked my sensor about as sensitive as it can get. If it starts to rain too hard my car starts honkin!

Well being that hoods are a mechanical latch, they probably reached under the car or soemthing and pulled the wire to pop it.

Unless they cut up the hood, they had to have gone in the car. The area where the hood latch is is impossible to access from under the car.

If it was anybody with long arms, they could have just pulled the glass back, reached in and slid the lock forward. I know I've done it a few times when I was dumb and still locked my keys in my car. Hate to hear that man, hope you can get it back.

The doors were still locked when I came downstairs and saw the hood gone.

they could have a long rod with a hook on the end of it and stick it between the drivers side window and the body to pull the hood release... that would be easy...

At least they were nice and locked your doors before they left. Just kidding! I really hope you can recover the hood though, keep an eye out for Z28's that happen to have a SS hood.

Good luck

Someone mentioned hitting the power door lock button with a stick or rod....according to the owner's manual for my '93, the power door locks won't work unless the key is in RUN or ACC, or RAP is present.

While I have no intentions of ditching my stock Z hood for anything else, I think I may add hood latch release relocation to my to-do list now.

SeannDog, Do you have an alarm? If you dont, maybe someone close to you knew that. I would think that thieves would stay away from an alarm.
