Unhappy Starting Problems

I own a 1990 Camaro RS. This car has been in the family for many of years now. Within the past year, I have been experiencing problems with the starting. There are times that I go to start the car and it starts fine. Sometimes I go to start the car, and the nothing happens. I turn the key, and nothing at all. I believe this problem is related to the security or the VATS. I turn the key and nothing happens. This problem seems to happen at the worst times. When this problem occurs, I have to walk away for about 20 minutes. When I return to the car after the 20 minutes, it starts no problem. I have no clue what the problem could be. I have changed the starter twice, thinking it was the solenoid. This is not the case. I took the key to a dealership and they told me that my resistance is 6 in the key, but would not give me further information. I cannot find a website that will tell me how to diagnose the problem. If anyone can help, please do! Thank you so much

No idea where VATS connector is on a '90, surely under the steering colum though. By resistance 6 on the key they're referring to the pelet value. Don't know if this will help, it's for later years: http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#pass_key
