3.42 gears were the only option with manuals from 94-02.

'96 was one of the worst years in the 90's for Stangs (anemic power). I've even read that in the Stang magazines.

Yup, like Shibby said - if you have a 6speed - you have 3.42's.

As for the race............I'll say this:

You have already won. He's in predenial.

96 was a **** poor year for the Mustang and he doesn't really have anything significant enough to get the car into LS1 territory. A power adder is needed if he wants that.

You'll beat him like a rented mule.

He wouldn't be able to pull a dead stock auto LT1, he will get straight up schooled by a 6spd LS1 assuming you can outdrive a helper monkey...

Re: stock 98 z vs 1996 modded gt

I had a '96 Stang with the exact same mods. In fact, I'm wondering if it's my old car. In the 1/4 mile your stocker will definately prevail. Be careful, however, if you are hitting the local streets for short runs. The long second gear in the Stang can be dangerous. With your setup, you will have to shift into 3rd around 60 mph (assuming your tranny is geared as I think it is) and that will eat into your momentum. He'll still be in second gear until he hits 65-67 mph -he won't lose any momentum due to shifting a gear. Make sure you race to speeds of 70 mph+. That will force him to shift into 3rd as well.
