Stock tire size on a 2000 Z28

Hey guys, whats the stock tire size on a 2000 Z28. They have 245/50/R16 listed as stock optional but then they have 235/55/r16 listed as OEM. Which of these is right? Thanks

Unless the car was ordered with Z-rated tires (don't remember the RPO, code, but I'm usre somebody has it hande somwhere...), the stock tire size is 235/55-16.

Which, of course, has the same overall diameter than the optional 245/50-16 and 275/40-17.

The other size is for V6 models.

edit: When I ordered my 02, the Z rated RSA's were standard equip on all V8 cars, with GSC's being a $200 option. I had the tires in sig, so took the free one's.

The 235/55 and 245/50 are not the same overall diameter. The 235 is ~.5 in. taller.

The 235's were standard up untill 01 or 02 I think
if you had 235's you had the 120MPH speed limiter

245's were an option and most had them.

Look in your driver door sticker, it should say what tire your car came with.

Okay... True, not exactly the same, but the 245/50 is used as the plus size for the original, though.

I don't know what that means.

Actually, 275/40-17 is "plus one". It is 0.02" larger in diameter than the 245/50-16.

Just for the record, overall diameter of 245/40-17 is over 1" larger and is not considered as "plus one".

Actually the 17" SS wheels are consittered a +1 because it refers to the rim and not the tires. If you do the math the 235/55/16 is 13mm taller than the 245/50/16 and about 10mm taller than the 275/40/17.

The 235/55/16 almost exclusively came on V6 cars. The 245/50/16 was the standard tire on the Z28 and was avialable in two speed ratings depending on the speedometer in the car. The 275/40/17 was only used on the 96-02 SS cars.

In 1995, at least, the standard Z tire was the 235.

Re: Stock tire size on a 2000 Z28

Who knows...

My son had a 95 v6 with the 235 tires. His freind had a stock 95 Z28 with the stock 245 tires. When I bought my 94 Z28 it still had 245 tires on it. Also, I beleive the salad shooters on the 235 and 245 tires were different widths.

I was referring to the difference between 245/50-16 and 275/40-17. That is the plus one size.

Yes, most V6's came with the 235/55-16's since people didn't feel the need to upgrade. However, the standard size for a Z28 was still 235/55-16. 245/50-16 was an option. Which most buyers opted for, though. Therefore many people refer the size as being stock.

Didn't find specs for a 2000 Z28, but here are specs for a 2001 from NADA's page.

Maybe somebody who has ordered their 2000 Z28 and maybe even has the original window sticker reads this thread and can confirm.

There is only one size of salad shooters and that is 16x8.

Re: Stock tire size on a 2000 Z28

OK--I still have the stock rims and have not changed tire sizes....My 2k Z came W/ stock Z's @ 245/50 ZR-16. Also keep in mind as the aspect ratio changes, treadwidth/sidewall height, if the sidewall height changes it's only common sense to figure that the overall tire diameter has changed. Not by much, but it still changes. Mabie that will help.
