Stuck window
Hey everyone. To start off, i tried doing a search for this issue but didn't see anything. Believe me i try and search before i go posting a thread that has been beaten to death. Anyway, i have a 2000 SS, and i took it to my shop to change the oil today. Got home, parked in the garage, went to roll the passenger window up and it went up fine with ease. I went to do the same with the drivers side window and it went up about halfway when i heard two mild "thunking" sounds and the window stopped. The sounds were about a second apart.
I haven't had any issues with these windows at all other then the passenger one is a tad slow (I know it will need a motor by the end of the year). I recently bought the car in March and the previous owner said he replaced the drivers side motor last fall. I would assume that its something other then the motor because it flies when i raise or lower the window. When i try and press the switch for up and down, nothing at all happens. no grinding, thunking, no loose sounding of a turning motor, just a click that sounds like its an electrical connection or something. The passenger side still goes up and down perfectly so this makes me think it's not the switch but i could be wrong? I dont think the window fell off any tracks because it is still in place and does not fall down, or come up if i slightly pull on it. I'm clueless beyond this so any help would be appreciated!

While Shoebox's writeup focuses on "adjustment" of the window, the photos will give you some insight into how the window mechanism functions.

Do not throw the old motor away. There is a safety mechanism built into the GM motors that causes this problem. I searched the internet and found an Israili in Boca Raton who fixes our windows for a living. He will replace motors and adjust for a fixed price. If you have the origional one he will take a sheet metal screw that he keeps a supply of and drill and screw it into the offending safety metal that fatigues over time and with use. He fixed both mine a year ago and I've had no problems, failures or drastic slow downs since. Get back to me if you are near So. FL and i'll look up his caerd. he comes to you.

I haven't thrown it away but since the passenger motor is getting slow, i'll probably use this old motor to return for the lifetime warranty and get another motor for free. Shoebox's website did make doing the window motor myself pretty easy, along with help from a friend. Defiantly saved me from taking it somewhere
